Mozambique: Chapo vows to appoint a Secretary of State for Arts and Culture

Mozambique’s outgoing prime minister, Adriano Maleiane, yesterday handed over the portfolios of his office to Maria Benvinda Levi. The ceremony was held this Monday in the prime minister’s office and was attended by civil servants and agents of state assigned to different areas.
A statement sent to ‘O País’ indicates that “the main competence” of the prime minister, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique, is to “assist and advise the President of the Republic in the direction of the government”.
It is also the prime minister’s responsibility to “also assist the president in the preparation of the government’s Five-Year Programme (PQG), advise the president in the creation of ministries and ministerial commissions and in the appointment of members of the government and other government leaders, coordinate and control the activities of ministries and other government institutions,” the statement reads.
