Mozambique discards annually 116,000 tonnes of plastic

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale was recorded in northern Mozambique at 7.10 a.m. on Tuesday, with no known casualties or damage, according to the National Mining Institute (INAMI).
“The epicentre was in the Mozambique Channel, 67 kilometres northeast of the municipality of Nacala-Porto and 41 kilometres from the capital of the district of Memba [in the province of Nampula, in the north of the country],” the INAMI note reads. The earthquake epicentre was 10 kilometres below the surface.
In addition to Nacala-Porto and Memba, Inami says, the earthquake was also felt in Nacala-a-Velha, and Nampula province, the country’s most populous with 5,758,920 inhabitants, corresponding to 20.6% of the population, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
“INAMI, the entity responsible for monitoring seismic activity in Mozambique, is monitoring the evolution of the situation with administrative authorities in the province of Nampula,” the note concludes.
