The municipality of Macia, in Gaza province, has provided 300 mobile stalls to street vendors there, as well as to some vendors who operate in markets, to improve the working conditions of this social group.
According to Macia mayor Ramal Mussagy, the mobile stalls were imported from India at a cost of some 1,500,000 meticais (around US$23,454), while the roof supports and finishes were made locally.
“Each beneficiary will pay 150 meticais per month, equivalent to 10 meticais per day, for the duration of their activity,” Mayor Mussagy outlined.
Amélia Cassamo, one of the beneficiaries, said the stand would help preserve her produce.
Secretary of State for Gaza province, Jaime Neto, congratulated Macia municipality on its initiative, which he said could usefully be expanded to other cities and towns in the province.
