The Machipanda border post in Manica has been experiencing unusually high volumes of goods vehicles leaving the Port of Beira for Zimbabwe, with lines of waiting trucks up to five kilometres in length, ‘O País’ reports
Drivers stuck overnight at the Machipanda crossing point want to see the problem resolved quickly. “I arrived here around 6:00 a.m… So far, I am just sitting here in line. I don’t know what time I will cross, since it is getting dark. We haven’t seen anyone answering for anything yet. Please do something for us, this is an unnecessary complication,” one said.
Mozambican customs authorities at the Machipanda crossing blame the build-up of trucks on the Mozambican side on delays in the Zimbabwean customs clearance process.
