The administrative post of Lunga, in Mossuril district, remains isolated from the rest of Nampula province as a result of damage caused by Cyclone Gombe, where the storm destroyed several access roads connecting the village of Lunga to the rest of the province.
This Friday, the governor of Nampula, Manuel Rodrigues, who visited Lunda to find out about the post-cyclone situation, said that a company had already been engaged to rehabilitate the road and restore services to the population.
“This is the only part of the province that cannot be reached by land ,” Rodrigues said. “The access road to this administrative post is completely impassable, because of the bridge over the Monapo river. We have now hired a contractor to restore transitability on the road giving access to this administrative post. At the moment, the only way to reach Lunga is by sea.”
National Institute for Management and Reduction of Disaster Risk (INGD) delegate in Nampula, Alberto Armando, said there was already a lot of assistance destined for Lunga, and that the restoration of road traffic to the region was expected soon.
