The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy has announced, in a statement released on Wednesday, cuts in the price of diesel, cooking gas [LPG] and kerosene in Mozambique.
The new price list sees diesel fall from the current 60.16 to 58.96 meticais per litre, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) drops from 61.23 to 58.18 meticais and kerosene from 48.44 to 45.24 meticais.
Gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) prices remain unchanged at 64.22 and 30.35 meticais, respectively.
“The reduction in fuel prices is the result of the international dynamics associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, with the price of a barrel of oil falling on the market in March and April,” the communique explains.
Since the announcement of the first Covid-19 case, on March 22, Mozambique had, by Thursday (June 18), recorded a total of 662 infections and four deaths, with 175 people recovered.
The country has been in a state of emergency since April 1, twice extended, now until June 29.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed nearly 450,000 lives and infected more than 8.4 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to French news agency AFP.
