With only a few hours left until the end of 2024, some people are looking for public transport at the Junta Interprovincial Terminal in Maputo city. However, transport operators report weaker movement compared to previous years.
“Typically, December 31 is not a day with high demand for trips to the central and northern regions. There is usually more movement to the southern region, but today, the activity is weak (…) Normally, during the festive season, we transport around 18,000 passengers, but this year we haven’t even managed to transport 6,000 people. This means our transport activity has been a failure,” explained the vice-president of FEMATRO.
The vice-president added that some buses have already departed for the central and northern regions and others for the south, but the demand remains below expectations. “This year, we have the supply, but we don’t have the demand,” he said.
