The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Nyusi, has announced that Local Force fighters would within two months start receiving a monthly subsidy for assisting the FDS in the fight against terrorism in the Northern Operational Theatre, Jornal Domingo reports.
To this end, the registration of members of the local forces by the Ministry of National Defence is currently underway.
The availability of this subsidy stems from the implementation of Decree n.º 15/2023, of 14 April, in its article number 7, approved by the Council of Ministers following the approval by the Assembly of the Republic of a revision of the National Defence Law legalising the Local Force.
This comes in recognition of the efforts of this force, made up of combatants of the national liberation struggle and their descendants, who, alongside the FDS, are fighting terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
