Immigration authorities checking the credentials of 95 foreigners in the country found 21 to be in irregular situation. Among the irregularities found were expired visas and residence permits and failure to notify the authorities of a change of address.
According to Cira Fernandes, spokesperson for the National Migration Service (SENAMI), nine searches on a national scale were mounted recently, focusing on markets, stalls and warehouses, and unearthed dozens of foreign citizens whose stay in Mozambique is considered irregular.
Irregularities were responded to with fines and notification of offenders to submit to the correct processes for the regularisation of their stay in the country.
