Four people died after being hit by lightning in Tete province, in central Mozambique, on Monday, the Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) announced today.
The deaths occurred in Changara district, and the victims include an elderly woman and a three year-old child. One further victim was seriously injured and a residence set ablaze.
Maputo province
The advance of the rainy season also caused damage in Maputo province yesterday and early this morning. Thunderstorms, wind and heavy rain brought down trees and power poles and damaged public infrastructure in the districts of Matola, Boane and Marracuene.
Some schools and public buildings have lost roofs, and elsewhere, there have been floods, the INGC said.

Mozambican authorities on Tuesday also warned of the possibility of “moderate urban flooding” in the cities of Beira and Dondo, Sofala province, as a result of unsettled weather forecast for the centre of the country until Thursday.
“The hydrographic basins of the Búzi and Púngué rivers may experience an increase in the volume of run-off,” the Mozambican Water Resources Management Department warned, asking the population to “take precautionary measures”.
