Mozambique: Life is returning to normal in the town of Memba – O País report

The Memba district government is providing transport for the population to return [to their areas of origin elsewhere in the district], a week after the last terrorist attacks in this part of the country. On the outskirts of the town of Memba there are currently houses hosting more than 40 people..

The three terrorist attacks in Eráti and Memba districts created many internally displaced persons in Nampula province.

In the neighbourhoods of the district headquarters town of Memba, the so-called “welcoming families’ ‘ are hosting dozens of people in a single house, while there is still no assistance from the National Disaster Risk Management Institute (INGD).

The population, which fled en masse for Nacala Porto and Nacala-a-Velha, is being invited to return, albeit with some caution, and life is gradually returning to normal.

Religious leaders are expected to repudiate the terrorist attacks at a press conference in Nampula scheduled for this Thursday.
