The governor of Nampula province, Eduardo Abdula, has held a meeting with the Libyan ambassador to Mozambique, Saleh M.M. Elbuaishi, to discuss partnerships in various sectors, with a focus on agriculture.
After the meeting on Friday, Eduardo Abdula affirmed that the province could, in the coming years, become one of the main rice production and processing hubs in Mozambique as a result of robust Libyan investment.
According to Abdula, it will be up to the provincial government to identify and evaluate the areas with the greatest agricultural potential to receive the investment. Districts such as Moma, Larde, Mogincual, and Liúpo are already on the preliminary list, due to their fertile soils and ideal conditions for cultivation.
“We will map the areas and assess the local population, then invite Libyan partners for a technical visit and begin the installation process,” Abdula explained, offering Libya’s successful experience in Gaza province as a reference.
The governor emphasized that the priority was to ensure employability for Mozambicans, especially local residents.
Ambassador Elbuaishi emphasized that the choice of Nampula was based on its agricultural potential and the readiness demonstrated by the authorities.
The project, with a production capacity of up to 600 tons per day, aims to meet domestic needs and produce exports to neighbouring countries.
Although the investment amount was not disclosed, the diplomat assured that it is an “open budget” program and a priority for the Libyan government.
