Lenna Bahule and her Brazilian-Mozambican band promise a very special night at the launch of her album ‘Kumlango’ at Casa Velha in Maputo this Friday and Saturday, 13 and 14 June.
The concert combines live music and video projections to create a multi-sensory and immersive experience, and Bahule’s new album, Kumlango – “portal” in Jaua, a Mozambican language – offers a fascinating fusion of traditional Mozambican music with a diversity of Afro cultures.
Mixing languages such as Jaua, Xitswa, Swahili, Chope, Tswa-Hlengwe, Reunion Island Creole and a new nomadic language, the album combines organic and electronic sounds to create a unique sound experience.
Inspired by the cycles of life, Kumlango explores the journey from the everyday to the mystical, celebrating the search for purpose and the emotions that come with that journey.
This unique event not only celebrates music, art and resilience through collective creation, but also marks an important moment in the singer’s artistic journey – a dream that took ten years to come to fruition.
