Mozambique will lead the election observation mission of the Southern African Development Community to elections in neighbouring Zambia scheduled for August 11.
The mission is composed of more than 50 observers from 10 member countries of SADC and was launched last Saturday in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
Oldemiro Baloi, Minister for Cooperation and Foreign Affairs, will head the mission by virtue of Mozambique’s current troika presidency.
At the launch event, Baloi encouraged all political stakeholders and Zambian civil society to ensure that the 11 August elections are conducted in a free, peaceful, transparent and credible manner.
