The Mozambican government has published a tender for a study on climate-resistant seed varieties suitable for the regions most affected by droughts and floods in the southern province of Gaza.
The initiative, launched by state-owned company Regadio do Baixo Limpopo with the support of the African Development Bank, is aimed at producing and disseminating the best possible seeds, as well as agricultural practices and techniques.
Floods hit Mozambique cyclically, especially between December and March, while drought conditions have been especially persistent over the last few years too.
The proposals for the execution of the study will be accepted up until December 28, and, after selection, the project is expected to run for 18 months.
At the end, a report containing the main research conclusions and recommendations will be presented to the five-year Baixo Limpopo Climate Resilience and Irrigation Project, which began in 2013.
