Mozambique launches national inspection campaign on land

The Ministry of Land, Environment and Rural Development launches a national inspection campaign on land, ‘Campanha Naciona’ de Fiscalização de Terras’, today in Maputo.
The purpose of the action is to monitor compliance with the Mozambican Land Law, namely in what regards access to land [ acquisition] and its sustainable and effective use.
According to a press release cited by Rádio Moçambique this activity arises from the need of the Land sector to continually adjust its strategies and forms of action, given the current dynamics of socio-economic development in Mozambique.
- There is no private ownership of land in Mozambique. Land and its associated resources are the property of the State. The Land Law, however, grants private persons the right to use and benefit from the land known as Direito do Uso e Aproveitamento da Terra (DUAT). [Source: Financial Institutions Legal Snapshot].
