Five soldiers on an army patrol, including an armed forces colonel, were killed in an ambush by an armed group in Cabo Delgado, in the north of Mozambique, on Thursday, the local authorities said on Tuesday, adding that the driver of the vehicle they were in was the only survivor.
The details that Lusa reported last Friday said the attackers put a tree trunk across the road and then shot the soldiers using machine guns.
The attackers were apparently wearing the uniforms of social operations forces, the army said.
The ambush came a few hours before another attack by armed men who killed 10 people that evening in a remote village 150 km south of Pundanhar, in the Macomia district.
