The company Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) on Saturday warned of the rescheduling of some flights due to “a one-off overhaul” of its largest aircraft, a Boeing 737-700.
The Mozambican flag company “sincerely apologises for the inconveniences that flight reschedulings are causing”.
LAM operates to 12 destinations in the domestic market. Regionally, it has regular flights to Johannesburg, Dar-Es-Salaam, Harare, Lusaka and Cape Town. Lisbon is its only intercontinental destination.
On Wednesday, LAM’s Board of Directors chose Américo Muchanga as chairman, replacing Theunis Christian de Klerk Crous, who had held the role on an interim basis since February, after the departure of João Carlos Pó Jorge and the initiation of a restructuring process at the company, now in the charge of Fly Modern Ark (FMA), a South African company.
Fly Modern Ark has been managing LAM since April 2023, with a restructuring plan underway.
LAM’s revitalization strategy follows years of operational problems related to a small fleet and lack of investment, with the record of some non-fatal incidents associated by experts with poor aircraft maintenance.
During Fly Modern Ark’s management period, the South African company reported alleged money embezzlement schemes at LAM, with losses of almost €3 million through ticket sales using automatic payment terminal machines (TPA/POS) that did not belong to the company.
