Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) has for the second consecutive year been elected Chair of the Executive Committee of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA).
The re-election took place during the 55th Annual General Assembly of AFRAA, held from 19 to 21 November in Kampala, Uganda.
LAM was represented at the meeting by its general director, João Carlos Pó Jorge, who highlighted the relevance of the company’s status as representing Mozambique. “This is a recognition of LAM’s long and valuable contribution to growth and consolidation of the commercial aviation industry on the African continent, which brings prestige to the company and above all to the country,” he said.
As a result of its re-election, LAM will for another year guide relevant AFRAA meetings where strategic aspects of African commercial aviation will be debated and decided.
The 55th AFRAA General Assembly was held under the theme “Strides to Transform Aviation for Development” and produced recommendations regarding the future of aviation in Africa.
African airlines and air transport stakeholders were urged to find ways to realise the transformational value of the single African air transport market for African companies and manifest the collaborative and effective outreach of the net zero aviation roadmap and the Africa innovation initiatives for sustainable aviation on the continent.
Synergies for the development of intra-African tourism and air travel and gender diversity as well as inclusion actions to shape the future of aviation in Africa also featured in the event recommendations.
