Mozambique’s flag carrier Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) currently has a fleet of four aircraft – three Dash 8 Q400 turboprops and a Boeing 737-700 jet.
In the past, the company has had larger planes, like the Boeing 767-200, which allowed it to fly outside Africa, but today it offers only domestic services and services to neighbouring countries.
However, through a leasing agreement with Portuguese EuroAlantic, LAM could soon resume flights beyond the African continent.

According to the ETurbonews website, LAM is negotiating with a Portuguese charter airline to offer flights with a Boeing 767-300ER with 279 passenger capacity, utilising EuroAtlantic’s permanent parking facilities at Lisbon airport.
These flights would be made with crew, aircraft, insurance and technical support from EuroAtlantic, but ticket sales and service in Mozambique would be the sole responsibility of LAM.
The Lisbon-Maputo route is currently operated exclusively by TAP Air Portugal with three flights a week by Airbus A330-900 jets carrying up to 298 passengers.
