Mozambique Airlines (LAM) announced on Wednesday that it had paid its staff their January salaries, after having warned of a delay on Friday.
LAM blamed the delay on the fall in revenues, which put the state airline “in a cash-strapped position” after almost a full year of reduced activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and in a month which typically experiences less traffic.
The January wages were paid on Tuesday (02-02), Lam announced.
“The payment of wages was made possible thanks to an agreement with a national bank, while efforts are made by the company to collect revenues in the hope of normalising the airline’s financial situation,” the company’s general management said in a communique
In addition to domestic flights, Mozambique has ongoing connections with various destinations worldwide. Mozambique currently demands a negative PCR test result for all travellers entering the country, except for children below 11 years of age.
Mozambique has experienced a cumulative total of 403 deaths among 40,260 Covid-19 cases, of which 62 percent are accounted as having recovered.
