Mozambique: Government may pay €2.6 million in compensation to euroAtlantic Airways

A passenger travelling on a Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) plane to Nampula, in the north of the country, assaulted a member of the crew and had to be restrained. The aircraft turned back to Maputo, the company announced.
In a statement sent to Lusa, LAM states that the incident occurred on flight TM 156, on Thursday, which was interrupted 30 minutes after taking off from Maputo International Airport at 5:50 p.m..
“The passenger disobeyed operational safety standards, continuously intimidated a passenger and assaulted the cabin manager,” the company explains.
The flight commander “decided to interrupt the trip to Nampula and return to Maputo”, the LAM statement adds.
“After landing, the passenger, of Mozambican nationality, of Nigerian origin, was handed over to the police,” the state airline concludes.
