Mozambique: Kidnappings lead to suspension of activities at Iquebal, four-time Maputo city champion of indoor football

Kidnapping in Mozambique has led to the departure from the country of members associated with the Grupo Desportivo Iquebal (GDI). In effect, the club’s activities have been suspended for an indefinite period.
The club had already suspended all sporting contracts with its athletes, “with these athletes being free to represent another group”, a statement from the GDI reads.
The document, addressed to the Maputo City Football Association, states that the GDI is currently undergoing a management restructuring phase, and that the suspension is for an indefinite period.
Having been champions in the city of Maputo four times, GDI’s record in indoor football is recognized.
