Mozambican businessman Artur Magaia was released by his kidnappers yesterday (Tuesday) after the payment of a ransom of more than one million dollars.
The victim is currently in the intensive care unit of a private health clinic in the city of Maputo.
Sources close to the case say that the businessman began to feel ill while in captivity and that the situation then worsened.
The owner of Empatel Customs Brokers was kidnapped on August 11, by armed men, near his home in Boane’s Belo Horizonte neighbourhood (Maputo province) as he was returning from work in the country’s capital.
