Mozambique: Kenmare welcomes back trans-shipment vessel Bronagh J

Kenmare’s Moma Mine in Nampula celebrates the return of trans-shipment vessel Bronagh J after maintenance work in South Africa.
Celebrations were held at Kenmare’s Moma Mine in Nampula province to welcome back the Bronagh J trans-shipment vessel following its five-yearly dry dock maintenance work in South Africa.
The Bronagh J, one of Kenmare’s two trans-shipment vessels, arrived back in Mozambique on 25 August, 2022.
A significant increase in shipments of processed minerals is expected at Moma following the vessel’s return. The mine is operated by Kenmare, one of the world’s leading producers of mineral sands.
The mine has been in commercial production since 2009, and is recognised as a major supplier of mineral sand products to a global customer base spanning over 15 countries.
Kenmare’s products are key raw materials, processed into intermediate products and ultimately consumed in everyday “quality-of-life” products such as paints, plastics and ceramic tiles.
In 2021, Kenmare invested US$2.3 million in development initiatives for the mine’s Mozambican host communities via its Kenmare Moma Development Association (KMAD). Highlights include the construction of a second community health centre and five new primary schools.
To date, KMAD development programmes have focused on three strategic pillars: livelihoods and economic development, healthcare development, and education development.
In 2021, KMAD invested 149 million meticais (US$2.3 million) in community initiatives in the Namalope and Pilivili areas, completing 93% of its planned activities.
