Mozambique: José Domingos Manuel is MDM’s new Secretary General

The Mozambican Democratic Movement (MDM) has acquired a new Secretary General yesterday. He is José Domingos Manuel, better known in political circles as ‘Mabatche’.

José Manuel was appointed general secretary by MDM president Daviz Simango during the second session of the MDM National Council, replacing Luis Boavida, who has served as secretary general since 2011.

According to O Pais, Boavida had expressed a wish to resign from the position, pleading fatigue.

The MDM National Council has re-elected its political commission, of the 11 members of which only four saw their mandate renewed. The seven new members include Luís Boavida and Carlos Saíde, the defeated candidate in the Nampula mayoral by-election.

Also appointed, as Head of Mobilisation and Propaganda, was Juma Rafim, from Cabo Delgado, replacing Geraldo Carvalho, one of the founding members of the MDM, who currently holds no position in the party.

Venâncio Mondlane, MDM’s appointed candidate to Maputo municipal elections, also ceased to be a member of MDM’s National Political Commission of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) following the 3nd Ordinary Session of the National Council which ended yesterday in the city of Beira, capital of central Sofala province.
