The Government of Japan will finance the construction of the first greenfield health centre on Idugo Island, in Quelimane. The infrastructure, budgeted at around US$79,000, will benefit the island’s 12,000 inhabitants.
The signing of the donation agreement between the Government of Japan, represented by its ambassador in Mozambique, and the general director of the Zalala Foundation marks the first step towards the construction of the first health centre on Idugo Island, in Quelimane.
The works on the health unit will ease the burden on the 12,000 inhabitants, who will now have access to quality medical care.
The Zalala Foundation, which is responsible for implementing the project, says the initiative will increase the capacity to serve patients by around 60%.
The Idugo Island Health Centre will consist of a medical consultation room, treatment room and in-house care, and will also benefit the surrounding areas.
The approximately US$79,000 to be disbursed by Japan is equivalent to more than 4.7 million meticais.
