The Italian Navy frigate Luigi Rizzo arrived at the Port of Maputo on Tuesday morning (08-04) where it will remain until the 11th (Friday).
The stopover precedes the resumption of patrols to protect commercial traffic in the Horn of Africa and Indian Ocean region, as part of EUNAVFOR Operation ATALANTA , led by the European Union.
The e European Multi-Mission Frigate (FREMM) ITS Luigi Rizzo , launched in 2017, currently serves as the flagship of the European mission, which is under the Italian command of Rear Admiral Davide Da Pozzo.
During the frigate’s stay in Maputo, the crew, under the command of Giuseppe Lucafò, will participate in a series of activities within the framework of cooperation with the Mozambican Armed Forces and in meetings with civil society, coordinated by the Italian Embassy.
The Rizzo’s visit also aims to initiate a new cooperation programme between the Italian and Mozambican navies, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and cooperation in the field of maritime security.
