The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in coordination with the National Authority for Professional Education, will this year introduce a specific regulatory instrument for vocational artistic education in Mozambique.
Speaking in Maputo this week during the official opening of the 2020 academic year, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Domingos Artur said that the objective was to regulate the vocational arts education sector in accordance with the objectives governing the building and training of talent in vocational art and culture.
Vocational arts education was one of the government’s top priorities, he added, with the culture and tourism sector recognising its centrality in ensuring the continuity of Mozambique’s cultural traditions.
The ceremony was attended by the directors of the public of visual arts, dance and music schools, students, guardians, and other guests residing in Maputo.
Artistic and vocational education institutions aim to guarantee citizens access to highly qualified scientific and artistic training to meet the country’s socio-cultural and economic development needs, this being the essence of the Government’s Five-Year Plan (PQG), in the cultural and training of human capital component, a desideratum driven by the Government’s approval of the Cultural and Creative Industries Policy.
Domingos Artur also noted that his ministry would introduce a new teaching curriculum based on standards of competence and oriented know-how, according to the format observed in the technical-professional education system.
