Mozambique: AdRM warns of water supply restrictions over the weekend
Mozambique is to introduce a system of mandatory identification microchips for dogs. The chips allows the identification of the owner and the date the animal was vaccinated against rabies, and can be purchased at licensed clinics.
According to yesterday’s edition of the weekly “Domingo”, the identification chips bear the Mozambique code 051, and are part of an international control framework.
This device is implanted in the animal at a cost of 1,200 meticais (the US dollar is around 60 meticais) from certified clinics.
A source at the Order of Veterinary Practitioners of Mozambique explains that the measure aims to record whether or not the dog was vaccinated by a qualified person and whether the vaccine is up to date.
The aim is to facilitate criminal proceedings against the person who vaccinated the animal in the event of improper or late product application.
