Mozambique: Ship dropped anchor off Xai-Xai beach due to bad weather, now on its way to Malta
The ordeal of residents in the northern area of Cabo Delgado province continues, thanks to the attacks carried out by a “terrorist” group which, since October 2017, has hijacked peace and tranquillity in that part of the country, ‘Carta de Moçambique’ reports today.
Yesterday, a few hours after the head of state, Filipe Nyusi, said in Mueda district that the government was doing its best to catch the attackers, the insurgents staged two attacks in Palma and Macomia districts.
During the afternoon, they attacked the village of Monjane in Palma, located near the resettlement neighbourhood being built for people displaced by the forthcoming natural gas liquefaction plant. The attack claimed no lives.
Of the raid on Monjane, we hear reports of the destruction of animal pens, the slaughter of 11 goats and the burning of 11 houses. The situation drove some families to the district headquarters village of Palma.
Then, at about 7:00 p.m. yesterday, a group attacked Goludo village in the Mucojo Administrative Post, Macomia district, killing three and burning down huts and looting.
These attacks come in addition to another reported this week by ‘Carta de Moçambqiue’ , this time in Nambo village, also in Mucojo Administrative Post, Macomia district.
The attack took place on Monday at 9:00 p.m., huts being burned down and small tents demolished, though with no word of fatalities. Residents lost goods, clothes and food in the raid.
