Mozambican civil society organisation the Institute for Multiparty Democracy (IMD), which has been accused of having been co-opted by President Nyusi and the Frelimo political party, has reacted to these accusations with a statement sent to ‘Carta de Moçambique’ this morning (Friday, September 03).
The organisation says it is “the victim of attacks and disinformation campaigns aimed at discrediting its image, [and the] independence and transparency that guide its actions. The targets of the attacks have been the organisation, its direct employees and even initiatives it coordinates. These campaigns are promoted by malicious people who the organisation does not know”.
The IMD guarantees that it will not lose sight of its mission of “contributing to the strengthening of multiparty democracy in Mozambique, promoting political dialogue, national reconciliation and good governance, and contributing to the strengthening of the capacities of democratic institutions”.
