Inhambane Municipal Council intends to remove the city’s proliferating derelict buildings, Mayor Benedito Guimino says, arguing that some of these ruins are becoming hiding places for criminals.
According to Mayor Guimino, the municipal council’s action aims not only to improve appearances, but also to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
Benedito Guimino mentioned the demolition of derelict buildings during Inhambane Municipal Council’s celebrations this Monday of the 69th anniversary of Inhambane’s elevation to city status.
Inhambane city is one of the oldest settlements on the East African coast, with an architectural heritage dating back to the 15th century.
