Mozambique: Fiscal tightening needed in 2025 to ensure economic stability - IMF
Lusa
According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), Mozambique recorded inflation of 1.83 percent in November, the third highest value in 2015 a year that so far registered a cumulative figure of 5.53 percent to November, well above the 2.95 percent and 1.21 percent for the same period in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
The increase in electricity tariffs announced last month added to the November increase in the INE’s Consumer Price Index for Maputo, Beira and Nampula released yesterday.
“Separating the monthly inflation by product, it is noted that the increase of price of tomatoes (13.9 percent), electricity consumption (7 percent), fresh fish, rice and others had the greatest impact on general price level behavior, contributing 0.94 percentage points,” Perpetua Michangula, head of INE’s Department of Prices and Economic Outlook, explained.
November recorded the third highest inflation figure of the year, behind October with 2.1 percent, and January, with 1.84 percent. These three months represent the highest values in the last three years, said Michangula.
