The National Statistics Institute (INE) will carry out, over the next two weeks [22 June to 4 July], a national survey aimed at determining the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Mozambican companies.
Starting next Monday, the survey will collect information about companies whose production process is affected by the pandemic, national director of Sectorial and Business Statistics Adriano Matsimbe says.
Data will also be collected on the number of workers affected and the impact of the pandemic on earnings.
The nationwide survey will be based on a representative sample of 2100 production units, covering all sectors of economic activity. Data will be collected directly by teams of INE employees.
Matsimbe said that the survey would clarify the loss of tax revenue and obtain information on the expectations of the business community regarding production, demand for their products or services, prices, employment, billing and remuneration for the coming months.
“We also hope to obtain data on possible support mechanisms aimed at minimising the effects of this pandemic on companies. This and other data will contribute to a solid assessment of the impact of the pandemic on the national economy,” Matsimbe added.
