Mozambique’s National Director of Geology Luísa Mahocha participated in Session 8 of the MMEC 2025 conference that discussed “Industrial Parks and Infrastructure Corridors to Promote the Growth of the Mining and Energy Sector”, where she highlighted the strategic importance of investment in integrated infrastructures as a key factor in boosting the added value of the country’s mineral resources.
Mahocha stressed that the remote location of many mineral deposits in Mozambique represents a logistical challenge for the flow of raw materials. In this sense, the creation of industrial parks and the reinforcement of road and rail corridors are considered essential to ensure their efficient connection to ports and processing centres.
“Our vision is to plan for the future. Investing in industrial parks means creating conditions for sharing energy, technological and logistics infrastructures, reducing production costs and completing the extractive industry value chain,” Mahocha stated.
She also added that, from a legal point of view, the sector had been including, in the legislative revisions currently underway, provisions that encourage the sharing of infrastructure in the locations where the resources occur.
Mahocha also highlighted that the Mining Law should provide for the obligation to channel a percentage of production for domestic consumption, reinforcing the need to promote the local processing of minerals.
“If the minerals are directed to strategically located industrial parks, we will be creating value, boosting local economies and reducing dependence on the export of raw products,” she stressed. She believes that investing in policies that encourage the internal transformation of resources “is a sure way to ensure greater competitiveness of the national mining sector” and sustainability for the communities that coexist with extractive activity.
The Thursday session was attended by several national and international speakers, and explored topics such as infrastructure financing through public-private partnerships, de-carbonization of transport systems, and development of logistics and storage networks that support the integrated growth of the mining and energy sectors in Mozambique.
