The province of Gaza on November 5 saw the conclusion of the Hotel and Tourism training of 263 professionals run by the National Institute of Tourism (INATUR) in partnership with the Alberto Cassimo Institute of Professional Training and Labour Studies (IFPELAC).
The 178 women and 85 men earned certificates of participation in Cuisine, Restaurant and Bar specialities.
On the occasion, the 22 best professionals were recognised, of whom 20 will benefit from a pre-professional internship at the Platinum Group and two will have direct job placements at the M3 Restaurant.
The programme was also for some an opportunity for reintegration in the market, as many of the professionals who will now benefit from scholarships lost their jobs due to Covid-19.
INATUR Director-General Jeremias Manussa noted in his speech that “Tourism has been chosen by the government as one of the four pillars of the country’s socioeconomic development, alongside agriculture, power and infrastructure”.
“In this context, the training you have just received is among actions which aim to operationalize this objective, with a view to improving the services provided by the tourism sector and make Mozambique the best tourist destination in the world, despite the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
IFPELAC Director Anastácio Chembeze called on all professionals to maintain their commitment to knowledge and service excellence.
“For trainees entering the job market, there are two things that will mark you. The first is technical competence – the know-how, knowing how to do. The second is your attitude and competence – being and knowing how to carry yourself. If you know how to do but don’t have the right attitude, you will miss opportunities. A combination of both is essential in today’s job market,” he elaborated.
Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, Maria Emília Mapsanganhe said that the qualification of these hotel industry professionals should be transformed into a field of opportunity.
She stressed that the government had been investing tirelessly in guaranteeing capacity to respond to investors’ demands, mirrored by the improvement of services offered by tourist resorts and coupled with a qualified workforce capable of providing the best service to visitors and guests.
In addition to the 263 professionals trained in Gaza, 1,204 other professionals have been trained across the country since the beginning of the programme, including 149 in of Maputo, 136 in Matola, 158 in Ponta do Ouro, 349 in Lichinga and 149 in Metangula.
The training courses are designed to ensure the continuous improvement of the professional skills and contribute to the development of the sector.
