The National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE) has destroyed products worth 62,232 meticais in its festive season operation in markets across the country for being expired or on the grounds of price fluctuations.
Boosting the supervision of basic products because of the forthcoming festive season, the INAE last week inspected 534 establishments, destroying food, alcohol, cigarettes and soap.
Reporting from the main distributor markets, the INAE has verified the price fluctuation of fresh products such as tomatoes, onions, potatoes and eggs. The weight of products is also being monitored.
Commercial establishments in Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Zambezia, Tete, Manica, Inhambane and Gaza provinces are notable for having the most expired products still for sale.
In the course of its operation, scheduled to end on January 10, the INAE has deployed more than 90 brigades, 210 inspectors and 12 pickets across the country.
