Seventeen primary and secondary schools closed their doors this month by order of the National Inspectorate of Economic Activities (INAE), because of non-compliance with measures to prevent and combat Covid-19.
According to INAE spokesman Tomás Timba, of the irregularities observed in the period in question, there stood out a lack of human resources in the quantity and quality necessary to respond to the challenges imposed by the pandemic.
Timba also said that, in all 17 schools, there was no cleaning of school facilities, no thermometers for measuring the temperature of students and other school users, no posters with information on Covid-19, and no management plan for the entry and exit of students in shifts.
According to the INAE spokesman Tomás Timba,, 216 commercial establishments were inspected, of which seven were tourist establishments, 16 were restaurants and establishments selling beverages, 63 stalls and ‘barracas’, and 10 others, service suppliers.
Of the 216 institutions, 17 were notified for irregularities. For example, in Nampula, the INAE destroyed 250 boxes of chicken liver past their expiry date, while in Zambézia, three illegal gambling machines were seized, and in Maputo province, 15 boxes of contraband chicken pieces.
Still in Maputo, the authorities sanctioned seven restaurants and three bottle stores for overcrowding, ignoring opening hours, turning restaurants into nightclubs, lack of hygienic conditions for holding events, noise pollution and failure to comply with Covid -19 counter-measures.
Starting on December 15th, the INAE will initiate a campaign to ensure compliance with Covid-19 preventive measures and counter price speculation over the festive season.
