Mozambique is to import two million doses of foot-and-mouth vaccine annually from Botswana.
The arrangement was formalised under a livestock sector cooperation agreement signed as part of three-day visit by President Filipe Nyusi to the country.
The agreement also provides for the genetic improvement of Mozambican cattle through artificial insemination and embryo imports, and the training of Mozambican livestock technicians and meat inspectors at the University of Botswana.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Olegário Banze, who travelled with the president, said that the cooperation agreement was aimed at increasing production and productivity in the livestock sector.
Mozambique currently has more than two million head of cattle.
and 650,000 for the control of Rabies. I wish to underscore Botswana’s willingness to continue the supply to Mozambique, given our expertise in the area of production of quality vaccines to combat these diseases.
