Mozambique’s state fuel importer IMOPETRO guarantees that there is enough liquid fuel in Mozambique to cover 22 days’ usage, contrary to the scenarios of shortage registered in the centre and north of the country.
This guarantee comes in a context in which some consumers in the city of Beira, for example, are facing difficulties buying gasoline, a situation that has prevailed for three weeks.
In the city of Tete, motorists have reported shortages for two months, with only one gas station having gasoline, which could result in this product being out of stock in the coming days.
Meanwhile, in Chimoio, Manica province, at least eight of the 20 service stations had no fuel as of Wednesday.
When asked to provide clarification on these complaints, IMOPETRO spokesperson Celso Banze explained that there was no problem importing or replenishing petroleum products.
“The regulations in this area require 22 days of stock and we have that. It may be the case that one or another retailer does not have the product for some reason, but we do not have any problems with gasoline, diesel and jet fuel on the market,” he stressed.
He explained that the supply of fuel continues to flow, and that a further ship had docked yesterday and was already unloading gasoline and diesel in Nacala.
He added that another ship is expected to arrive in Pemba, Cabo Delgado, today, and that other discharges of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel were scheduled for yesterday and today in Maputo and Beira.
He assured that this exercise has been taking place regularly, as can be seen from the fact that diesel and gasoline were unloaded in Maputo on the 19th of this month, the 21st in Beira, and the 18th in Pemba.
‘Notícias’ asked the Mozambican Oil Companies Association (AMEPETROL) for comment, but it only promised to do so next week.
