The first 50 houses built for those affected by Cyclone Idai in Nhamatanda district, Sofala province, will be delivered in December.
The batch forms part of the 1,000 houses being built by the Tzu Chi Foundation, in a project budgeted at more than four billion meticais.
Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane, who visited the Ndeja resettlement neighbourhood in Nhamatanda this Friday, was impressed with the project, which is part of the post-cyclone reconstruction.
“Houses are being built. I went to see Type One and Type Two houses. The people who are going to live in these houses, I noticed an enormous happiness on their faces. Now, they have the great responsibility of maintaining them, so that they stay pretty. A year from now, when we come here to visit, we want to find everything pretty!” he said.
Those resettled praised the government’s efforts to repair the damage caused by Cyclone Idai.
