The Mozambican government has decided not to review the National Reconstruction Tax to be paid in 2024 in most districts of Mozambique, but has revised upwards the rate to be paid in three districts of Maputo province and two districts in Sofala.
Created in 1978 to finance the reconstruction of Mozambique following the civil war and to repair damage caused by natural calamities, the National Reconstruction Tax rate to be paid by December 31 of this year does not change in most districts.
But @Verdade has learned that the tax rate was revised upwards in the districts of Manhiça, Moamba and Namaacha in Maputo province, and in the districts of Machaze and Vanduzi in Sofala.
The National Reconstruction Tax is among those contributing the least to revenue. In 2023, it collected only 24.4 million meticais, out of a target of just 59 million
