Mozambique: Area 4 to invest US$1.5M in Community Programs in Palma

The Mozambican health authorities on Friday announced the diagnosis of a further 75 cases of the Covid-19 respiratory disease, concentrated overwhelmingly in Maputo city.
A press release from the Health Ministry said that, since the start of the pandemic, 164,361 people have been tested for the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, 2,026 of them in the previous 24 hours.
1,139 of the tests took place in public facilities, and 887 in private laboratories. Of the samples tested, 786 were from Maputo city, 468 from Cabo Delgado, 269 from Nampula, 231 from Maputo province, 147 from Sofala, 68 from Niassa, 31 from Tete, 23 from Manica, 17 from Zambezia, 15 from Inhambane, and 11 from Gaza.
1,961 of the tests gave negative results and 75 people tested positive for the coronavirus. This brings the total number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 10,612.
72 of the new cases are Mozambican, two are Lebanese and one is French. 43 are men or boys and 32 are women or girls, 12 are children under 15 years of age, and four are over 65 years old. No age information was given in three cases.
Over three quarters of the new cases – 60 – are from Maputo city, and six are from Maputo province. There are also three cases from Manica, two from Gaza, and one each from Nampula, Zambezia, Tete and Inhambane.
In accordance with standard Health Ministry procedure, all 75 new cases are in home isolation, and their contacts are being traced.
The Ministry said that, in the previous 24 hours, three Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital (one in Tete and two in Nampula), but seven new patients were admitted (six in Maputo and one in Nampula). Currently there are 38 people under medical care in the Covid-19 isolation wards (37 in Maputo city and one in Nampula),
The Ministry release added that, in the same period, a further 48 people made a full recovery from Covid-19 (38 in Zambezia and 10 in Cabo Delgado). The number of recoveries now stands at 8,262, which is 77.9 per cent of all those diagnosed with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
As of Friday, the geographical distribution of all 10,612 positive cases, by the provinces where they were diagnosed, was as follows: Maputo city, 5,003; Maputo province, 1,805; Zambezia, 749; Cabo Delgado, 746; Nampula, 601; Tete, 385; Gaza, 370; Sofala, 330; Inhambane, 265; Niassa, 239; Manica, 119.
Zambezia has now displaced Cabo Delgado as the province with the third largest number of cases. Maputo city and province account for over 64 per cent of all positive cases, but 86 per cent of currently active cases.
