President Filipe Nyusi is visiting areas affected by Cyclone Chido today, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.
During his Family Day and Year-End address to the nation yesterday, Nyusi revealed that Cyclone Chido caused 73 deaths, left one person missing, and injured 543 others, both seriously and lightly, across the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, and Niassa.
He also noted the destruction of 52,476 homes, 39,133 of which were completely destroyed, leaving 329,510 people homeless.
The President expressed sorrow over the challenges faced during his 10 years in office, including the impact of multiple cyclones—Idai, Kenneth, Gombe, and Freddy—as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, which have negatively affected the country’s development.
