Guruè district, in Zambézia, expects to produce over 4,400 tons of green tea leaves this season, to be later processed for consumption.
This volume is the result of the combined production of three companies: Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Zambeze, Chá Magoma, and Chazeiras de Moçambique, which manage an estimated area of 4,908 hectares.
This information was provided to Radio Mozambique by José Manuel, director of Guruè District Economic Activities Services.
Manuel said that the three companies have currently produced over 3,000 tons of green tea leaves.
Tea from Guruè can be marketed either as green tea (unfermented leaves) or black tea (fermented leaves), depending on the amount of processing that has taken place.
