Mozambique: Impire residents flee as armed groups pass nearby
Niassa province remains under fire, with an as-yet-unidentified armed group creating havoc in two districts, Carta de Moçambique reports.
Last Wednesday night, the district of Mecula was once again the scene of terrorist attacks, with Lichengue village, located just over seven kilometres from the district headquarters, the target.
Carta sources at the scene did not report any casualties, but say the marauders burned down houses and vandalized the mobile phone network. The population was forced to take refuge in the district headquarters village.
At dawn on Thursday, the group carried out attacks on two vehicles in Chiconono village, Muembe district. The attacks took place less than 20 km from the main village of Muembe.
Carta sources say that two people were seriously injured in the attacks, and others robbed of property, including money and mobile phones.
The attacks have yet to be confirmed by authorities.
So far, the perpetrators of the attacks remain unidentified, but it is suspected that they belong to the terrorist group that has lost ground in the North Operational Theatre since the deployment of foreign troops there.

” There was a population on the run and without direction !
Dozens of houses burned down. There was also an armed robbery somewhere along the roads , where the occupants of two open-cash vehicles were shot, searched and removed money and foodstuffs by unknown. “@news_pinnacle pic.twitter.com/QhLUoHXgWc

The attacks against the village of Lishingwe/Lichingua (not to mix up with Niassa’s provincial capital, Lichinga) took place 8 kms south of Mecula. Stars show other recent attacks by ISCAP. Circle indicates hideout of some of the Daesh gangs. Worrisome. pic.twitter.com/D9jKMXegWW
