A growing number of lions are being killed in Mozambique for the body parts necessary for traditional rituals, especially in Asia.
Rui Branco, a veterinarian in the Gorongosa National Park in Sofala, told Radio Mozambique that the reserve had lost six lions in the last two years.
Speaking on Wednesday on the occasion of the World Day of the Lion, Branco said that the demand for nails, teeth and bones for traditional rituals in China, were putting lions in danger of extinction.
