Arriving at Independence Square to attend Daniel Chapo’s inauguration ceremony today, Graça Machel told journalists that it was time for Mozambicans to take each other’s hands and walk together towards a Mozambique for all, in which everyone feels like a son or daughter of the country.
For Graça Machel, Mozambicans should not miss this great opportunity to unite.
Graça Machel thanked everyone who had made an effort to ensure that the inauguration of the MPs on Monday and the inauguration of the president-elect today could took place, because, she concluded, there were very powerful forces that did not want it to happen.
On the occasion, the President of the Mozambican Bar Association, Carlos Martins, expressed his hope that the separation of powers would be renewed, with respect for the fundamental rights that are crucial to democracy.
“We need dialogue and reconciliation, consensus for the future, with separation of powers, which is not a legal problem, but a political one. It is possible to be friends of transparency and inclusion. And a people cannot develop with violations of human rights,” Carlos Martins said.
