The Russia -Ukraine war could raise the price of wheat and fuel, given that the two countries are major exporters of these resources to Mozambique. O País reports.
In its first pronouncement on the war between Russia and Ukraine, the government of Mozambique was realistic about its impact, Mozambique being no island in relation to world events.
“Obviously (the war) has an impact on the increase in the price of bread, could have an impact on the increase in fuel prices and could also have an impact on the increase in the prices of other products, especially those products whose raw material is imported from these countries that are major producers worldwide,” spokesperson for Wednesday’s Council of Ministers session, Ludovina Bernardo, said.
However, the deputy minister of Industry and Commerce said that the government would within days reveal measures to mitigate the impact of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Ludovina Bernardo did not advance any position on possible support for either country involved in the conflict, but noted that there are Mozambicans in Ukraine and guaranteed that assistance for them would be forthcoming.
The Council of Ministers session, which was extended from Tuesday into this Wednesday, also ratified an agreement with the Commercial and Investment Bank (BCI) for the facilitation of two billion meticais’ worth of credit, to purchase fuel.
